V. Meaning of certain Vocabularies (Terminologies)
Fingers:           KANISHTIKA = Small Finger
                        Anamika           = Ring Finger

Sthothra = Chanting of Lords Name (Praising)
Manthra = Spellout of Active details while on process.

Oordwapundra = Traditional mark on forehead Neck, Chest & Shoulders & stomach.

Aachamana = Using (Sipping) drops of water to cleansing the inner soul.
Praanaayaama = A yogic exercise of breethin-hold & breathout. Activating the lungs &
Arghyam = Self sacrificing method by offering spiritual water to Godess Gayathri and
                    Lord Narayana.               
Paadyam = Offering spiritual water at the feet of the Lord Narayana
Theertha Dravyam = Five herbal & Natural ingredients to add into the spiritual water
used for aaraadhana (pooja) such as Kesari, Raw camphor       (pachakarpuram), cardomom, Jaajikai, kumkumapoov.
Thirumanpatti = A wooden box suitable or a box made of palmleaf to store spiritual
                               white processed mud & safron processed mud.     
Suprabhath = Poem chanting to waking up of Lord Narayana
Shoshana (Mudra) = Means cleansing by Air (by imagination), showing the palm
                                    upside down over all pooja materials.
Dhaahana (Mudra) = Means cleansing by Fire (only by imagination)
Plavana (Mudra) = Means cleansing by Flushing (by imagination)
Asthra Manthrasana = By imagination, as though you have offered the golden seat to
                                        the Lord.
Prokshanam = Sprinkling of spiritual water.
Nyasa Dasaka = Self cleansing prayer to the Lord using manthras in ten ways.

  1. Protecting the self.
  2. Facilitating to undertake Kaimkaryam & praying.
  3. Selfless dedication.
  4. Surrendering to the Lord.
  5. To be at the feet of Lord without fear at the time of last breath.
  6. Without any desire serving forever.
  7. Not becoming defaulters in any conditions, of any choice.
  8. Praying always for your sympathy.
  9. Pardon me if any such mistakes happened knowingly or unknowingly.
  10. I surrender to you with all five active elements such as tongue, eyes, nose, ears and hands/legs.

Yagabhumi = Spiritual place where pooja takes place.
Graasamudra = means repeating “SHOSHANA DHAAHANA – PLAAVANA”
Veeryaya Asthraaya Phutt = making sound using first finger and thumb in 8 directions

Guruparampare = LINEAGE OF POORVAACHARYAAS chanting of poem.
Sankalpam = Taking OATH of our rites in process.
Anusandhaana = Actions (work) that we are going to repeat the day to days practice.
Satvika Thyaga = clean & heartfelt surrender to Lord.
Bhutha Shudhi = Bhuta means self & Shudhi means cleansing.
Maanasika Snana = Imaginary bath taking.
Paathra Parikalpana = Creating spiritual theertham in the specified Pooja Vessels.
Parivaara = means NITYASUREES. Assistants of Lord Narayana.
Astaksharam = A manthra (spiritual wordings) “OM NAMO NARAYANAYA” with 8
                           letters name of the Lord in Sanskrit language.
Anughne = Praying for permission.
Snaanaasanam = Seating for taking bath (for TIRUMANJINAM).
Danthakastam = Brushing of teeth using a natural herbal stick like margosa stick
Gandoosham = Mouth Wash.
Mukha Prakshalanam = Face Wash.
PurushaSuktham, SriSuktham, Sri Bhuneela Suktham = Vedic Chants
Alankaaraasanam = Seating for beautifying the body of the Lord Narayana using
Oordwapundram, Tilakam, Vasthram, SriChandanam, Pushpamaala (Garland) and all ornaments such as Kireetam, Tholbandhi, Golden Ornaments etc.,
Archane = Chanting Lords, SriDevi, Godha, Bhu, Neeladevi and offering loose flowers
                   on every spell of the Name.
                   After which repeat it for Acharya & Paramacharya’s.

Pallandu = Praying the Lord Narayana to be with us for 1000’s of years on this earth.


Note: The above said informations are preliminary activities. Now on for POOJA.


I] After bath, Pundram, Sandhyavandanam, walk towards temple chanting Guruparampare and Moola mantram. Donít have anyother contacts in between temple and residance while going for pooja purpose.

II] On reaching temple front gate (dwaara), put Dheerga DANDA PRANAMAM. Then pray to dwarapaalakaas for permission (chant Chandaadhi dwarapalebhyo namaha).
Then enter and reach DWAJASTHAMBAM and repeat Dheerga dhandam.
Then enter into the hall walk around (PARIKRAMA) from left to right.
Then Gong the bell hung in NorthEast Corner and reach Front door.
Then claps from left hand over right palm and right hand over left palm and then both hands together like ANJALI.
Then shake all doorbells and open locks using the keys. Then open doors slowly without much noise then put curtain if it is open.
You need to come with water in a kumbam, and sprinkle water, while sprinkling chant


Aaradhana Kramam


    Placement of Aradhana Paatram
    a. Icons of God will be facing East (means attached to Western wall).
    b. Exactly in front of icons, FIVE + ONE vessels are to be placed positioning:
    i) Two vessels in parallel to the Lord each with a reasonable distance.
    ii) Another two in parallel to the above.
    iii) Above two sets placement forms a square and another vessel in the centre (fifth).
    iv) Sixth vessel is placed in the NE corner of b (ii) above
      L1 and L2 are lamps.
